Proposed tougher penalties for harming police K9

Oklahoma senators introduced a law that would make it felony if somone hurts or kills a police dog.

Reading the comments here, I see the public "gets it" while the police departments are clueless in their own little world. Us vs them

Since this also includes horses, we might take a look at how it might have been applied when sheriff's deputies trampled spectators at this parade: http://www.fox23.com/news/local/story/Fight-breaks-out-at-MLK-parade/nNe1ArKMo06dfqsoNfokGQ.cspx and then claimed one of the injured assaulted their horse.

This isnt about protecting dogs. They treat their own dogs like circus animals, but it's "do as I say and not as I do."

It should have already BEEN a felony when the K9 was FIRST sworn-in to be an officer.

Also, compare the rare instances of K9s killed in the line of duty (1996 in this case) to the number of civilian pets shot by officers every year. Most include dogs chained or locked in backyards, or inside homes (and even dogs shot while inside crates) where the officer never faced any consequences for killing a family pet that was no threat to them. Hypocrites.

If you research K9 deaths over the years, most are due to owner negligence, ranging from dogs lapping up radiator fluid dripping from patrol cars, escaping from their pens or left in the heat. Also, since departments classify K9s as "officers" it's already a felony to injure one, so the law isnt even needed.
