Tulsa Police confirm the man wanted for questioning in Monday's quadruple murder in Tulsa has been arrested in Kansas. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirms Joseph L. Tillman is in their jail, arrested on a warrant out of Tulsa County. However deputies there would not provide details on when or exactly where he was arrested.
Investigators with the Tulsa Police homicide unit would like to question Tillman, 33, about Monday's quadruple murder at Fairmont Terrace. Four women were found shot to death in an apartment.
Tillman, who is wanted on a domestic assault and battery warrant, may have some information regarding the case.
23-year old Rebeika Powell, 23-year old Kayetie Melchor, 33-year old Misty Nunley and 55-year old Julie Jackson were shot and killed at the Fairmont Terrace Apartments on Monday.
"The killer is still out there so there is some sort of danger to the public but I don't think we need to be sitting in the rocking chair with a gun pointed at the door. There was some reason for what has occurred and I am confident the investigation will come out,” said Tulsa Police Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker.
He said they do not have a motive but are working around the clock to investigate this case.
"We are looking at narcotics angle, domestic angle even the money angle."
Investigators say they believe the shooter or shooters knew the victims. However, neighbors are still on edge.
"It's scary to even step outside my door,” said the victims’ friend and neighbor.
Brandy Hernandez says she has been threatened to stay quiet.
"’You don't need to be talking to the news cameras, they don't know who do this. It's going to get back on you.’ I'm sorry if it means bringing a murderer in, if it means justice I am going to do it.”
Witnesses in the complex at the time of the murders or those who knew the victims are being taken in for questioning about the murders.
“We have talked to a lot of people a lot of times,” said Walker. "As far as the community, they are trying but the ones with direct knowledge are being less than truthful with us.”
Now Tillman, 33, is wanted for questioning. He is not a suspect but a person of interest.
Police say he is known to hang out around 61st and Peoria.
Neighbors are forced to live in fear but they can’t afford to leave.
“I can't leave, I have no other place to go,” said Hernandez.
Investigators say Tillman does not have a car and releasing his picture for questioning in the quadruple homicide, not many people would want to be associated with him; making his world very small.
Although, there have been seven homicides this year, the homicide rate for Tulsa is the lowest it has been in ten years and the Tulsa Police Department is at full strength for the first time in three years.
