Mounds trustee charged with indecent exposure

A member of the Mounds board of trustees is facing serious charges. David Helton is charged with three counts of indecent exposure and sexual battery.

Three women claim that he showed them inappropriate photos of his pierced privates and also touched one of them in a sexual way.

Now that controversy has hit the sleepy town of Mounds, it has put a dent in the faith of the town government.

"It was brought to my attention a while back from a couple of girls in the office that Mr. Helton had done inappropriate things by showing them pictures," says Mounds Police Chief Tim McDaniel.

FOX23 spoke with one of David Helton's accusers off-camera. She says the whole ordeal has made her afraid that she could lose her job. She also says that Helton showed pictures of his pierced privates on more than one occasion, and that he would also massage women's shoulders during trustee meetings.

"One of the girls had also mentioned that he had slapped her on the rear end and made a lewd comment at that time as well," says McDaniel.

Since then, two of the three women making the accusations against him have filed protective orders.

"My understanding that due to the nature of the protective order, it specifically says on the protective order that he is not allowed to attend the functions, specifically board meetings, because one of the girls actually attends those meetings," says McDaniel.

FOX23 went to the home of David Helton to get his side of the story. He wasn't at his house at the time, but we did speak with his wife about the accusations against her husband. She says that her husband is innocent, and that the women asked to see the photos.

We also contacted Helton's attorney. He says, "It's been orchestrated for an eventual sexual harassment lawsuit."

Helton has since posted bond and is out of jail. His next court appearance is scheduled in November.

It sounds like the women are organized, but were they organized early enough to set him up?
