A McAlester man is accused of possessing and soliciting child pornography and sexual contact with a child through text messages.
Brandin Kyle Cathey faces charges of preparing, distributing and exhibiting obscene material; pornography - procuring, producing, distributing and possessing juvenile pornography, and soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.
McAlester police say a woman contacted them on November 26th about text messages she was recieveing from an acquaintance that bothered her.
Court records show the woman told police she’d known Cathey years ago and was re-acquainted with him in August and began text messaging with him. Police say the woman told them Cathey began texting her asking to meet for sex and when she refused he began asking her to find girls to have sex with him.
The affidavit says the woman asked Cathey what kind of girls he was looking for and he replied, “he didn’t care what the age was of the girls… he would be willing to go as young as eight years of age.” The report further states Cathey offered to pay as much as $1,000 to have sex with a young girl.
The report says Cathey told the woman, “he had sex with several young girls that were daughters of a friend of his.” The report also says he texted photos of underage girls without clothing to the woman.
Police say the woman contacted investigators because the propositions angered her. She worked with police to set up a sting by telling Cathey she’d found a 13-year old interested in his proposition and a police officer texted with Cathey posing as the teen.
Court records allege Cathey sent sexual messages to the teen and asked for nude photos. Cathey also agreed to pay $1,000 to have sex with the teen and arranged a meeting, but continued to ask for nude photos to make the deal. Police made arrangements for a meeting between Cathey and the teen, but Cathey never showed up.
Court records show he later texted to apologize for not showing up and began texting the woman again just days later. She contacted police and they again arranged a meeting between the woman and Cathey involving sex with a young girl.
Records show police set up surveillance and observed Cathey showing up at the meeting place and leaving when no one met him.
Cathey faces charges of preparing, distributing and exhibiting obscene material; pornography - procuring, producing, distributing and possessing juvenile pornography, and soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.
