A Tulsa man is out thousands of dollars and New Year's Eve celebrations at some local bars have had to be canceled after a trailer filled with sound and lighting equipment was stolen from his home.
Logan Sours started his business, Havoc Productions, relatively recently, but it has taken off quickly.
He keeps his thousands of dollars worth of equipment stored in his locked garage, and transports it to gigs using a 12-foot trailer.
On Saturday night Sours loaded his equipment into the trailer to prepare for the three gigs he booked for New Year's Eve. But sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning he came home to find his trailer and all of his equipment gone. All the thieves left behind was some trash.
What's most upsetting to Sours though, is that he not only lost the equipment, but he also lost a big part of his livelihood.
Monday was supposed to be a huge night for Sours.
"The one I was supposed to do sound at tonight, SRO, the event had to be canceled because of not having sound available," Sours said.
But it's not just the New Year's Eve work he lost.
"There's a lot of monthly gigs I do that I'm booked for," he said. "Now they're just up in the air. They're going to have to find new sound guys."
Sours isn't sure if the thieves targeted him because they knew what was in the trailer, if it was coincidence, or if it was part of a recent rash of trailer thefts.
"It's very large equipment," he said. "It's not just standard speakers. I mean, these are massive subwoofer enclosures and giant towers."
But that means it should be harder for thieves to sell of the stolen gear.
"I've got every music store in Tulsa on the lookout for it."
But Sours is worried the thieves have done this before and know what they're doing because Sours' friend, who lives a few blocks away, had his motorcycle stolen the same night.
"It was at the exact same time, so really likely that they could have put the motorcycle in the trailer after they stole it," he said.
While he's trying to stay positive, it isn't exactly the way Sours planned to ring in the new year.
"I'm not really superstitious," he said. "I'm just really hopeful that this year ended bad, but I'm really hopeful that, you know, the beginning of 2013 will be a lot better and maybe the equipment will show up."
I'm really hopeful. I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
Since the theft, Sours has already started installing surveillance cameras around his house in addition to other new security measures. He hopes the upgrades will keep someone from getting away with doing something like this to him again.
The trailer was a 12-foot gray Avenger with two swing-out doors on the back and a large door on the side. It has two small flood lights mounted on the rear, and a few racing and car-oriented stickers on the back.
