FOX23 has learned investigators are trying to get DNA from a Michigan man accused of driving to Oklahoma to have sex with a young teenage girl.
District 27 District Attorney’s Office Investigator Michael Moore says 27-year-old Christopher Adams carried on a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old Cherokee County girl in a cabin in Sequoyah State Park.
He was contacted by Park Rangers who performed a traffic stop and found the teen in the car with Adams. They notified the Department of Human Services and Moore before collecting evidence from bedding and trash cans in the cabin the two were staying in.
“Anytime you have a predator that feeds on the young, we need to get them off the street and definitely out the parks," said Park Ranger Roger Moody.
He told FOX23’s Dontaye Carter he received a very strong tip from a family member of the teen saying they believed she was seeing a man from Michigan who would travel to Oklahoma on several occasions to spend several days with the teen.
"It's hard. We deal with it a lot,” said Moody. “It touches home especially when you have kids and you see it."
They caught Adams in the Days Inn motel near Highway 51 and Highway 69 in Wagoner. This was one of the places he would meet up with the teen. Investigators say they used that location to lure him back down to arrest him.
"He was under the impression he was coming back to meet the victim,” said Moore. “We were set up and ready for him when he got here."
"If you’re out there preying on the young you will get caught," said Moody.
Adams faces five counts of rape and five counts of forced sodomy.
Investigators say they will take the evidence collected and submit it to the OSBI for DNA testing.
