An 18-month old is intensive care after police found him alone in an apartment in Jenks with a dead man.
Jenks Police say they found 48-year-old Ray Allen Lykins dead in his apartment and the toddler unresponsive around 8:00 Wednesday morning. Tulsa Police Child Crisis detectives are assisting with the investigation.
Jenks police were back out at Shelby Place apartments in the 400 block of Aquarium Place around 5:15 pm. They knocked on doors asked neighbors questions about the people living in the apartment where Lykins lived.
“They asked me if I had seen anything or if I knew anybody,” said neighbor Kathy Javin.
She says she didn’t know anything or the people who lived there. She says she didn’t know about the case until police showed up at her door asking questions later in the day.
“This is sad, this is terrible and saw this on the news and now I’m living it,” said Javin.
One neighbor told FOX23 News off camera four people lived in the same apartment as Lykins and saw the toddler Tuesday night. The neighbor described the toddler has having blotchy skin and being pale and told FOX23 News he told the toddler’s grandmother he needed to go the hospital.
He also said the grandmother told him Lykins wouldn’t wake up.
The neighbor told FOX23 News he thought it was being taken care of and didn’t call for help.
Police say they weren’t called to Lykins apartment until Wednesday morning and found the toddler unresponsive and Lykins was dead.
“What kind of people would not take their baby to the doctor?” said neighbor LaDonna Cantrell.
Jenks Police Chief, Cameron Arthur, told FOX23 News the case is still under investigation, several people have been questioned and search warrants have been executed but no arrests.
He said someone living the apartment was arrested on separate warrants unrelated to the toddler’s condition and Lykins death.
“It’s devastating I don’t know what else to say, it’s sad,” said Javin.
Family friends tell FOX23 News the toddler’s grandmother lived in the same apartment as Lykin but the toddler didn’t live there. It’s unknown where the mother was but FOX23 News is being told the toddler’s mother is at the hospital with the child.
Police are waiting for toxicology reports to see if that could determine Lykin’s cause of death.
