An early-morning crime spree in Owasso ends with a man barricading himself inside a QuikTrip.
Owasso police arrested Kallie Watkins and Johnny Cook after he threatened them with a needle and a syringe. This all started when the couple crashed their van into a home in Owasso.
“By their tracks you can see that they came in pretty good and hit the house,” says neighbor Paul Smith.
Smith has lived in the neighborhood for 32 years. Around 3:00AM Tuesday morning, he was startled awake by a loud noise.
"I heard the phone ring through the bedroom and I ran through the house and got to the kitchen where the phone is. It was my neighbor Judy Aire and she said don't be alarmed but somebody hit my house,” says Smith.
He ran outside and saw a maroon-colored van in front of his neighbor’s home.
But the story doesn’t end there. Rogers County Sheriff’s deputies say the couple inside the van then stole a truck and ended up at the Quik Trip in Owasso off highway 20 and 169. Watkins surrendered to police, but Cook barricaded himself inside a bathroom stall.
"After a time period the subject did reveal himself and he had an unknown substance in the syringe, and advised the officers that if they didn't get back he was going to infect them,” says Captain Tracy Townsend with Owasso Police.
After repeated attempts to get him to surrender, Owasso police fired a non-lethal beanbag round and then pepper spray. The man was taken to an Owasso hospital and later transferred to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. Police believe he was under the influence. After he is treated, he will be arrested.
The couple could face charges of knowingly concealing stolen property, resisting arrest and possible drug charges.
