Instructions are in plain sight, but few drivers’ paid attention to the warnings. Tuesday, one car after the other, entered Fairmont Terrace. Each driver is supposed to be let in by security.
FOX23 made several attempts to speak with someone about security at the apartments.
A security guard within shouting distance, on the other side of the fence, walked away when I started asking questions. Neighbors encouraged FOX23 to ask about a security gate that could easily be opened.
"They haven't done jack about it," said Julie Wheeler.
After a series of crimes last year, security at the apartments was increased quite a bit- including the gates, scan codes, and
ID for residents. Still, Wheeler said she doesn't feel safe.
"If I could, I would move," said Wheeler.
Within a mile radius of where she lives, according to TPD there have been 26 homicides in the last two years.
"It's just ridiculous, I hate it," said Wheeler.
Lanny Endicott has watched the area steadily decline.
"Late 70's, early 80's is when you began to see the section eight movement," said Endicott.
