| Preston Jones joined the FOX23 News team in July, 2013. He came to Tulsa from Raleigh, NC where he worked simultaneously at WTVD ABC11 News and News14Carolina, the state-wide 24-hour cable station. |
Preston started as an intern working on the assignment desk and producing health stories during his freshmen year in college. After graduation he started reporting at News14 where he had the opportunity to interview Jill Biden while she was in Raleigh campaigning for he husband during the Presidential election.
Preston’s most memorable story was when he interviewed Neil Heslin, a father from Newtown, Connecticut, who lost his son in the December shootings. Neil was part of a nationwide campaign encouraging tougher restrictions and background checks for gun owners. From an early age Preston knew he wanted to be a reporter. The excitement of covering breaking news, meeting new people and seeing things he would not have seen otherwise.
As a former UNC cheerleader, Preston’s most memorable life experiences come from back flipping on the sidelines while cheering on the Tar Heel football and basketball teams. Even though he’s 1200 miles away, Preston still bleeds Carolina blue and continues to cheer on the team just now from the couch instead of the basketball court. While most of Preston’s family is back east, he did bring along Monroe a cocker spaniel/poodle mix puppy. During his spare time Preston loves playing the piano, reading, hitting the gym, and spending time outside with Monroe. One of Preston’s guilty pleasures is chocolate which he loves the fact that there are so many Russell Stover shops in town.
Preston is excited to be in Oklahoma. One thing he notices quickly after upon moving here was how welcoming and friendly people are –which is by far his favorite part about this state!
