Dontaye Carter came to FOX23 from the east coast, where he worked in the Tallahassee, FL / Valdosta, GA area as a producer and reporter.
He decided to pursue a career in broadcast journalism because it allowed him to see a world beyond his own. "It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our own lives," says Dontaye, "but being able to put myself in someone else's shoes, to be their voice and tell their story is what I am passionate about."
This is Dontaye's first time to live in this part of the country, but what impressed him right away was the people he has met here. "They are kind, and it’s great walking down the street and being able to just speak to people I haven't met before."
Dontaye's most memorable story to cover has been one he reported on a mother who lost her daughter to cancer. She was selling gold bows to raise money for pediatric cancer research (gold is the color for pediatric cancer). She told Dontaye, “I don’t want anyone else to ever have to tell their child there’s nothing they can do to save them.”
"She is a hero," says Dontaye. "That's one story I will never forget."
